Meet Alex Thompson who is Head of Audio & Flightcase Manufacture at SXS

Where did you come from before this?

Before working for SXS Events most of my experience had been in theatre doing Audio and Lighting.  I started working for SXS part time while doing a degree in Music Technology and then took a full time position on finishing my degree.

What is your favourite thing about events?

I like the variety of doing different events and dealing with the challenges that these bring.  I get a lot of satisfaction out of being part of a team that produces an event. Seeing the end result and being part of that, always brings a sense of achievement and satisfaction. 

Where do you see the company in five year's time?

Who knows? I’ve worked here for over 10 years and seen the company change enormously in every area.  I could take a guess but I would probably be wrong. We seem to evolve with the type of work we bring in so it depends on the type of work we end up doing more or less of over the next few years that will ultimately determine this.  Hopefully more audio work so we can grow the sound department. 

If you could change anything in the events business what would it be?

Less last minute events so that details could be planned more thoroughly in advance.  More training courses specifically relating to our industry.

What do you do outside of work?

When I’m not working I enjoy mountain biking, power kiting, camping, and most things outdoorsy. 

If you didn't do event production what would you do?

Probably move to the Lake District and become a sheep farmer or build dry stone walls on the hills.
