Featured Staff – Lucy Payne

Meet the Featured Staff Member, Lucy Payne, our newest Production Executive

Where did you come from before this?

Before working at SXS I worked in a number of administration and production positions. Most notably I worked at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival last year as a venues coordinator which was extremely fun because I got to watch theatre all summer, as well as live in Edinburgh which is a beautiful city. I also volunteered at Bristol's Arnolfini and enjoyed their enlivening exhibitions from artists based outside of the UK.

What is your favourite thing about events?

Meeting clients for the first time and hearing their vision for an event is always fun because their enthusiasm can be infectious. You then get to take their ideas and plan and build upon them to create an event that tries to push beyond their initial expectations. That's the great part when you get to see an event through and feel satisfied.

Where do you see the company in five years' time?

Our in-house expertise will be even more refined and we'll be doing more jobs across Europe and maybe even beyond...!

If you could change anything in the events business what would it be?

Less last minute events so that details could be planned more thoroughly in advance.  More training courses specifically relating to our industry.

What do you do outside of work?

I enjoy being involved with a local non-professional theatre company as backstage support and as editor for their newsletter. I also like to act and am currently rehearsing as Puck in 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' with Gatecrash Theatre.  My main activity when outside of work though is eating good food with friends and family.
